this and that and 30 weeks

>> Monday, March 15, 2010

This past Saturday I officially hit the 30 week mark, and today I am officially seven months pregnant! There are nine weeks and five days left until my due date, and I'm hoping this baby girl doesn't go past that date! My appointment today went well, with the exception of finding out I have a bladder infection; this really wasn't surprising since I've been sensing for a few days that while something wasn't really wrong, not everything was right either. So my doctor prescribed me an antibiotic, and I should be over it within the week!

Everything is starting to really come together with her room and everything she'll need. I've already had one small shower that the ladies from my Bible study gave me, and our church is throwing me a shower this weekend. Then John and I are driving up Easter weekend so my mom can host something of a friends and family shower for me!

Not much else is going on this week. I started a fairly big sewing project (well, big to me; some of you sewing veterans may not be too impressed), and I'm trying to finalize a day to do my friend's family beach pictures. The weather is finally becoming consistently warm, but there's some sickness going around, so we're waiting on that to flee their systems. Hopefully next weekend we'll be able to take care of it! OH, and our furniture is being delivered Saturday!

I think I'm off to take a nap-- between daylight savings time and having to be up early for church yesterday and my appointment today, my body is begging for more sleep!

2 fabrics

>> Saturday, March 13, 2010

I purchased 3/4 yard of two contrasting fabrics and a new, blue spool of thread and created this yesterday:

I made this for a lady in my Sunday school class who is expecting her third son early next month. Her shower is tonight, and until yesterday I was clueless as to what to give her. I knew the baby's room was decorated in a Western, cowboy theme, and upon spotting this fabric at Wal-mart while shopping yesterday, I knew it would be perfect for a blanket. Once I finished the blanket, I saw there was enough left of each fabric to make one burp cloth (using a cloth diaper backing). Once I finished the burp cloths, there was still a little bit of each left over, so I sewed up a little pillow!

Spending less than $6 on both fabrics (the rest of the materials were already at home), I made a present that would otherwise be sold in a store for triple the price!

I think I may be on to something!

the anniversary post

>> Wednesday, March 10, 2010

As I mentioned last post, this past Monday was our second anniversary. I never imagined being a housewife of two years with a baby on the way at the age of twenty three, but I wouldn't have it any other way!

That morning, John had to go to his office for about half an hour to write up and print off a couple of things for work; since we were planning on going to Destin for a couple of hours (and his office is on the way), I decided to just go with him and draw up a pattern for a diaper stacker I'm going to be making for our little girl while he worked. We ran a few errands in Destin before grabbing lunch at a joint called Yard Birds (it's sort of like Zaxby's).

We headed back to the house, where I thought we'd be staying until dinner, but John had other plans. As we pulled into the driveway, he told me to go inside and grab my camera because we were going to be doing a little 'sightseeing'. As it turns out, we went to the zoo near our house!

Pregnant. Very. Do I really have another two months to go?

I took upwards of 200 pictures and deleted about 100 thanks to under and (mostly) over exposed pictures. I shot in manual, and due to the bright sunlight, reviewing my pictures on the LCD screen was difficult, so I never was able to accurately see how a picture turned out, thus causing me to 'mis-set' my shutter speed. However, I was still able to capture some great shots.

Hello 'der. John and an alpaca. Or llama. Or something.

I went to zoo as a kid a few times, but I have zero memory of ever seeing a giraffe. Needless to say, I was excited, and my only regret is not buying a little cup of food at the entrance so we could have fed him. Or her.
What 'chu lookin' at?

When you drive buy the zoo, it doesn't look very large. Once your inside, you'll soon realize that looks are deceiving, and you really do walk your bottom off. For the record, walking more than your used to with a child in utero is not exactly a walk in the park (or zoo for that matter). It was a beautiful day out, though, so I really didn't mind.

It's a wonder this guy didn't get stuck doing this.

At the end of our stay, we road a train around the grounds and were able to see a few more animals, including zebras and hippos, so that was neat.

Choo choo!

After a couple of hours (and a whole lotta walking!), we left the zoo and headed home for about an hour to relax before driving to Pensacola for dinner. We ate at Miller's Pensacola Ale house, and wound up getting the entire meal (smoked fish appetizer, Cajun chicken pasta, chicken Parmesan, and a decadent chocolatey/caramel-ish, ice cream pie) for free because the chicken breast on John's plate wasn't fully cooked. The breast was huge and appeared to be well done on the outside, so we could see how it was an honest mistake. The server and manager (though it wasn't either of their fault) were very apologetic; I have a feeling that won't be happening again any time soon.

Once we finished dinner, I assumed we were going to walk around the mall or do a little driving around Pensacola. Or just go home because John and I were starting to feel the effects of being out in the sun for several hours. But we didn't. The restaurant we were at is located right next to Rooms to Go, and John asked if I wanted to go inside 'and walk around and dream' about furniture we'd like to buy.

When John and I first got married, we bought a bed and mattress (and eventually nightstands to match with gift cards) for our bedroom. We couldn't afford a dresser, so I just bought some of those plastic three drawer containers to store t-shirts, socks, underwear, etc. in our closet and hung everything else. The storage system, while inconvenient at times, worked out rather well, but I was still holding out for a dresser. The bed has held up nicely, but it's not the greatest quality, and since we've had to take it apart/put it back together several times when we've moved, we decided a new bed would need to be a purchased sometime in the next year.

We were given a table and chair set, too, and while it was in pretty good shape, it was old and some of the pieces (one of the chair backings, chair arm, etc) were broken and the table wobbly. This was more of a priority than the bed, since we've been planning on buying a new dining set 'one day' ever since we got married.

Well friends, that day finally came. I wasn't aware, but John had been planning on 'seriously looking' at a dining set at Rooms to Go on our anniversary. We walked all around the store before deciding on a counter height table and chair set. 'Counter Height' = those tables that are higher than a regular table. We also decided to go ahead and buy a new bedroom set that included a bed, two night stands, a dresser and mirror (yay, a dresser!!!), a matching TV stand, and a TV. The television actually came with the package, and since we already have one, we're probably just going to sell it. It's a 32'' Samsung, so if anyone knows someone who's in the market for a new tube, let me know!

Oh. How could I forget. We also got a new mattress. We definitely did not have intentions of doing that, but we were sort of-kind of-maybe considering buying a new one in the next year or two anyway, and it was on sale, and it felt oh-so-amazing-i'm-always-going-to-stay-in-it, and it came with a 15 year warranty that we just went ahead and threw it on our tab, too.

Since the financing is three years same as cash, and we can pay it off before the three years is up, we decided to pay the monthly payments until John gets his tax refund next year, we'll pay the rest of it off then!

I'm really excited about what we're getting and I'm so looking forward to using it all in the years to come! Expect pictures once it has all been delivered and set up!

2nd anniversary

>> Monday, March 8, 2010

This will be short, but I at least wanted to mention it the day of. . .

John and I got married two years ago!

We've had a wonderful, yet longer-than-expected-but-for-good-reason day, so we're both pretty out of it. I found these pictures somewhere in my files, and I thought it'd be fun to post them!

There is no telling what provoked such a reaction, but I love this picture. It. Is. Us.

fabric love

>> Saturday, March 6, 2010

i've had the fabric in the first two pictures for several months and am just now getting around to making use out of it. the fabric in the third picture was purchased today; thanks to a great sale at JoAnn, i was able to buy a yard of each that totaled the same amount as one yard of the raised dotted fabric normally would.

i'm looking forward to the finished products of what i'm creating and sharing them all on here. i just realized that i forgot to photography one other 'fabric', so i guess you'll just have to wait and see what i've done :)

lookin' out my back garage door

>> Wednesday, March 3, 2010

A few days ago I was doing something Very Important (and by that I mean I don't know what in the world I was up to) at my car. As I finished up and walked towards the garage, I glanced towards the front yard and saw this:

'What the. . . ?'

'Definitely not a opossum. . . '

And I know none of you actually pronounced the O in opossum.

'Is that seriously an armadillo?'

Yep.

Tennessee doesn't really do armadillos; they're more of a Dead Opossums on the Side of the Road state, so watching one of these little guys in action for the first time was entertaining.
